They wore these. The sad part is I switched to Adidas last year and now everyone not wearing Nikes is going to be racist or something stupid because that’s the world we live in now.

I think you're fine with Adidas. I don't think this will make Nike the default "woke sneaker." If anything all I've seen is general delight with Nike making certain people's heads explode with this campaign.

I wear almost entirely New Balance, so apparently that makes me a white supremacist .
I don’t see any association with Nike or Reebok. It’s like asking “Why do Libertarians wear Levi’s?”

White socks don’t go with anything. Sneakers get either black ankle socks or if I want to be more presentable with long pants, some kind of casual dark colored regular socks. If I’m wearing slacks I match my socks t o them, like such:

What’s funny is that Adi Dassler founded Adidas after his brother, Rudolph, told the Allies he was a Nazi. They owned a shoe company together called Dassler. When Rudolph was sent off to fight in Poland, he blamed his brother. When he came back he formed Puma and ratted on his bro. Tore their whole town apart.

So the marketing take: just hiring somebody like Kaepernick doesn’t necessarily mean that the ad will have anything to do with the protests or black lives matter or any of that nonsense. I mean he is known for football first. Should that ad feature it prominently..... then maybe Trump’s ramblings will actually make some sort of sense. But that would be retrospectively and that doesn’t count. So it’s nuts.
Traditionally as a company you don’t want to take a political stance either way, unless (say, gun companies) your product directly relies on the legislation being discussed. Thats why most companies, should they donate, donate to both parties. If you take sides, you potentially alienate half your audience. If I’m nike, I want every man, woman, and child to wear my shoes. Everyone seems to have forgotten this these days, and it’s driving me nuts. It’s like you have to compile a list of brands you cant shop at.
In this instance though, it’s completely blown out of proportion. You know what really needs to happen though? Kaepernic
k needs to shave that beard. he looks awful in it.

Welcome to the modern media, where social networking influences real stories and fact checking is less important than speed.
Apparently the kernel of truth behind it was that NB supported Trump’s wishes to renegotiate the Trans Pacific Partnership because it would be good for business. Meanwhile the alt-right took NB’s CEO quotes out of context and started peppering their own sites with NB propaganda to help create a trend that didn’t exist.

![]() 09/05/2018 at 13:24 |

I know there’s also the “match your shirt” school of sock thought, but I have a bunch more shirt colors vs. a smaller number of pants colors. I don’t want to have to buy socks to match each shirt.
Instead I have my blue socks, my grey socks, etc. I don’t match my socks to my pants when I wear khaki/tan pants because khaki/tan socks are ugly.
The truth is I’d really rather be wearing a t-shirt and jeans or shorts, but if I’m stuck wearing work clothes I might as well at least be somewhat presentable.

Pretty funny to look at the big picture. The conservatives who are all about america business, etc. had no problem buying all nike stuff made in china for cheap for decades but when a black man speaks his mind unabashedly about some serious issues within America, they NOW have a problem.
Whats even funnier is when many of them listed Addidas now as their next shoe . WTF? They’re made in the same places and not even American owned. “Whats un-american now, Nike! We’ll show you! Wheres my addidas!”

I’m anti-Nike, because they are a buncha virtue signaling weenies. At the same time I am pro-CK, because I think he totally played everybody in order to not have to play fooseball and risk injury, yet still get a “top level NFL endorsement”. I will be negatively biased against any future
articles showing images of him looking all frumpy and
not grinning like an idiot, because he’s gettin’ paid now.
Personally, my next shoe purchase will be a smaller made-in-USA brand. There’s too much baggage with all of the major brands.

I do not consider myself to be a media-engorged commentator on politics. Still, I am aware of the media frenzy that surrounds 45 and his persistent efforts to stir that frenzy. I cannot view Nike’s choice of CK as
anything
but a poke in Donald Trump’s eye, and Trump is taking the bait BIG TIME. And like I said: how many in Trump’s base actually
wear
Nike? Remember how Liberals ran out and bought the Dixie Chicks’ new album because of conservative backlash?
![]() 09/05/2018 at 15:13 |

Hypocrisy aple

Ni ke is a corporation though. They aren’t making a political * statement* but a political *move*, used t o sell more stuff. Taking this s ide happens to have been calculated to make them more money than it loses.
![]() 09/05/2018 at 15:28 |

That’s true. I mostly wear blue or green so it’s pretty easy (occasionally orange and yellow but I have a pair of socks for that). I wear jeans and steel toes to work so I rarely dress up which also helps keep the sock count down. I used to just wear brown socks but that is boring and I like colors BC deep down I’m an A.D.D. 8 year old haha
![]() 09/05/2018 at 15:28 |

I wasn’t aware fitnesswear fell on pa rty lines. I don't see why republicans wouldn't wear nike. His supporters are diverse, dispite what people think. They are also crazy.
![]() 09/05/2018 at 15:48 |

Carolina Shoes has a line of excellent work boots made in Pennsylvania. That will be my next shoe purchase.
I’m down with all that you’ve written here. I’m not sure how well you and I would align socially or politically, but hypocrisy is hypocrisy and if it’s like you said, and CK gets big bucks and doesn’t have to submit his brain to chronic traumatic injury, then more power to him. I didn’t like Nike any more than I do now, nor any less, but I don’t mind seeing President Trump getting poked in the eye with a sharp stick, either.
![]() 09/05/2018 at 15:50 |

I’m not either. Just throwing it out there. Three million is a big number and I am doubtful that a million or more of those votes all came from illegal aliens.
What I found interesting about all of this was that even though I was

Social lines, more than party lines, but the distinction has been mauled under Trump’s reign. Then again, Liberals like to conflate the social and the political. Not crazy, just rampantly, cosmically inconsistent. And Trump thinks

I will mention again that it’s the Trump-or-nothing kind of conservative that tends to be the most vocal. And you’re right, they’re probably all up in arms.
Personally, I find the more libertarian-leaning conservatives being indifferently silent about it. Ttyymmnn, I think, makes a valid point, and it’s one that many conservatives have been saying about the left this last year...that “the left” and “liberalism” are now two wholly different things. Trump and his supporters are not “conservative,” and instead merely, “the right.” Or maybe just Republican.
Maybe I’m not Republican anymore. I don’t know. We argue over the stupidest stuff today. Life, liberty, property...the Constitution and its amendments...I will champion those things. Anything else we can agree or disagree on, we can learn to live with each other and be civil. Life is too fleeting to be angry all the time, regardless of whether you’re liberal or conservative.
Oppo for Congress. Somehow we all manage to not kill each other.
